The organizers of this year’s Vancouver Pride invited Nikolai Alekseev, Moscow Pride Chief Organizer to be the Marshall of their Pride. The March will take place next Sunday in the streets of Vancouver. Nikolai Alekseev will appear on the front row of the March. Photos and report will be available on GayRussia.Ru


 07/25/2010  Jacques Teyssier, RIP
It’s a year that Jacques Teyssier the French born partner of German MP Volker Beck passed away on July 25, 2009. The activists of GayRussia.Ru remember the smile of this experienced activist who attended Moscow Pride in 2006 and 2007. A minute of silence was held this year in the memory of Jacques and in the presence of Volker Beck in the evening of May 29 after the successful first LGBT March ever held in Moscow. “In this day of remembrance, we are missing Jacques, his smile and his happiness. We will not forget his help on several issues we were working together” said Nikolai Alekseev, Moscow Pride Chief Organizer. GayRussia.Ru

 06/29/2010 00:00:01  St Petersburg Court scheduled hearing on Gay Pride Ban

Smolinski district Court announced today that it scheduled for July 2nd, a hearing to consider last Saturday Gay Pride ban. The organizers introduced their claim 2 days before the day of the Pride hoping the Court would consider the matter in an emergency hearing. The City Hall denied all the 11 options applied by the LGBT activists to hold their first Pride March in the City. The rally went on as planned and was broken up by the police after 10 minutes. 5 participants were detained. GayRussia.Ru



 06/27/2010 08:12:23  St Petersburg Pride host tonight the Russian Premiere of the Movie "Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride"

As part of the St Petersburg Pride, the Russian Premiere of the Canadian documentary will be screened tonight in the city center. The documentary which was shown for the first time in Eastern Europe during the Slavic Gay Pride in Minsk features the evolution of Gay Prides all around the world and emphasized on the difficulties to hold Prides in Moscow, Warsaw or Colombo compared to New York, Sao Paulo or Vancouver. The screening is presented by the St Petersburg based LGBT group 'Equality' which organized the first ever St Petersburg Pride March yesterday. Let's remind that the event was banned by the city authorities and five participants including 3 organizers were arrested and detained for 4 hours. During a Press Conference which took place yesterday in St Petersburg, organizers said they filled a complain against the City Hall for not allowing their Pride March scheduled on June 26.  06/04/2010 00:01:12  Next Gay Pride is St Petersburg on June 26, 2010

After Minsk, and Moscow, St Petersburg is the next city to host a Gay Pride this year in Russia-Belarus. The March is planned for June 26 and will take place in the city center however, organizers said that they are very pessimistic about the chances to have their action authorized by the city authorities. In May, both Minsk and Moscow Pride have been banned. In Minsk, 12 participants were arrested, including 7 held for 48h in custody and fined by a Court while in Moscow, the police did not manage to arrest the participants. In St Petersburg Pride, GayRussia.Ru will work once again in cooperation with UkGayNews.org.uk to broadcast a live blog from the event. GayRussia.Ru

 05/17/2010  May 17, 2010 : GayRussia.Ru celebrates its 5th birthday

The LGBT Human Rights Projects GayRussia.Ru was born on May 17, 2005. 5 years later, so much work has been done. The organization is run by a team of volunteers and all actions are self-sponsored by its members. GayRussia.Ru does not receive any institutional funding. In the last 5 years, GayRussia has been actively campaigning for freedom of assembly (Moscow Pride is the organization's most emblematic campaign), family rights (campaign for same sex marriage), for freedom of expression and against hate speech. The activists were successfull in eding the ban on blood donatio by gay people in Russia. GayRussia.Ru



 05/16/2010  2 organizers of St Petersburg Pride still detained in Minsk

Two of the St Petersburg Pride organizers arrested in Minsk during the Slavic Pride action on Saturday will be kept in custody until Monday. A representative of the police explained that they will be taken to Court together with 5 other Belarusian activists. The Police has denied the Russian Embassy access to its citizens. GayRussia.Ru



 02/11/2010  Organizers of St Petersburg Gay Pride asked for a meeting with the City Governor and Ombudsman

On February 10, St Petersburg Organizers wrote the governor of the Northern Capital, Valentina Matvienko and the Commissioner for Human Rights, Alexei Kozyrev, requesting a meeting twith City officials to discuss planned the logictiscs of the first Gay Pride planned in the city next June 26. In their letter, Members of the Organizing Committee stressed that "our event is exclusively rights-based and has nothing to do with a carnival. We want to realize our rights to march and rally which are granted by the Constitution". The group further expressed the hope that "St. Petersburg government will not allow the remake of the gay pride in Moscow which is brutally suppressed every year". The first gay pride in St. Petersburg will be held the same day as the Paris Gay Pride. GayRussia.Ru

The European Premiere of the Canadian documentary "Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride" will take place during the Vienna Human Rights Film Festival in Austria. The crew as well as Nikolai Alekseev, Moscow Pride Chief Organizer will take part to a Q&A session after the first screening on saturday December 5 at 9pm at the Burg Kino.
